Nortec Award 2010

Mankenberg Second-Place Finisher during Conferral of Nortec Award 2010

During the NORTEC 2010 fair and exhibition from 2010-01-27 through 2010-01-30 more than 400 manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and contract manufacturers as well as service providers presented the entire world of modern production technology. This year the NORTEC award has been conferred for the first time to exhibitors who have developed an innovative project in a particular form of cooperation. The award was initiated by Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) together with the Regional Association for North Germany of the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. (German Machinery and Plant Manufacturers Association) and the technical newspaper 'Produktion'.

Apart from the first prize winner, Messrs. HWR Spanntechnik GmbH, the Jury members considered four additional projects to be equally important and after a neck-and-neck race they all were awarded the second prize. In this context the top-class jury with experts from private enterprises and from universities acknowledged Mankenberg's cooperation project for the promotion of young people by means of sponsorship for local schools.

The elementary and comprehensive school of Moisling (Lubeck) and the comprehensive school of the city of Reinfeld have been supported by our company for more than three years now. The most important objective of such co-operation is to encourage the pupils when they are approaching working life. In addition to job application training, young people get to know the method of operating of a medium-sized company during their practical training and gain insight into administration and production. The pupils are intensively supported by Mankenberg's apprentices of nearly the same age, thus developing personal ties. Thus the first contact with the working world is made easier.

For their judgement the jury members applied the evaluation criteria novelty/degree of innovation, benefit/profit obtained, exemplary function/role and sustainability. To Mankenberg the award is an incentive to continue their efforts for the promotion of young people.
