Inauguration of Mankenberg's office in Hangzhou/China

Mr Axel Weidner, managing director of Mankenberg GmbH, was part of the economic delegation of the prime minister of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, Mr Peter Harry Carstensen, travelling to the Chinese province of Zhejiang from 09th through 16th October 2010. The primary goal of the Schleswig-Holstein delegation was to enhance activities in China, to intensify new and existing contacts and to promote cooperation in economy and research. In addition, the world exhibition EXPO in Shanghai was visited.

During a visit to the Schleswig-Holstein Business Center of the WTSH (Business Development and Technology Transfer Corporation) in Hangzhou the prime minister unveiled a commemorative plaque together with Axel Weidner in memory of Mankenberg becoming the 125th member of the Business Center. With its involvement in the office Mankenberg expects to ameliorate communication and to provide a ready service for the customers in the Chinese market.

A focal point of Mankenberg’s sales activities is to boost export. The present export rate of abt. 30 % is planned to increase to 40 % within the next five years, and to enhance awareness of the Mankenberg brand. With its abt. 1.35 billion inhabitants China has become one of the largest national economies of the world and offers great opportunities for Mankenberg valves, especially for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries and for power stations.

Mankenberg has been certified as a supplier for nuclear installations on an international level as per the IAEA 50-C-Q standard and, therefore, can supply valves and tailor-made solutions for nuclear industries worldwide. However, the HAF 604 admission of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) is required for supplies in the Chinese market, for which the application procedure is presently in process.

During recent years Mankenberg has established contacts with various partners and customers in China. The direct contact to Chinese partners has been valuable, especially through the native Chinese engineer Jing Yuan-Töpperwien who is working in the Lübeck head office. In addition Mankenberg’s web page has been extended by the Chinese language.

125 Years of Mankenberg

2010 is a special year for us - it marks our 125th year in business. Being successful in the market for more than one hundred years is a proof of our flexibility, experience and innovative force.

The company Gustav Mankenberg was founded in the German city of Heide in 1885, ten years later it was transferred to the industrial location of Szczecin. In 1945 Mankenberg moved to Lübeck where it has constantly pursued the objective of manufacturing standard valves and individually tailored solutions for customers all over the world. The Mankenberg GmbH is a fourth generation managed company currently run by the founder's great-grandson, Mr Axel Weidner.

We took the opportunity to elaborate an unusual concept to create a book and an anniversary homepage in a lively way using our experience and historical facts. For this purpose some milestones of the Mankenberg history highlight specific products or our present-day corporate strength. Some examples are: High Grade, development of our product variety, competent special solutions etc.

Our specific anniversary homepage - the ‚125 years microsite’ - presents our corporate development in an unusual way. Get new ideas and suggestions by taking part in our two big contests in May and June:- Assemble online a pressure reducing valve thus enhancing your product knowledge in an entertaining way or put together the football puzzle on our anniversary homepage! You will prove very adept at putting the memorable dates from the football world together with milestones of Mankenberg’s development in a chronological order. We hope you will enjoy discovering the site!

Our Anniversary Activities

Mankenberg will host the meeting of the discussion group “Quality Control Manager” of the German Engineering Association VDMA. The quality managers from more than 20 companies out of the Association will meet on 29.04.2010 for an exchange of ideas and experience with regards to quality assurance.

On 11.06.2010 we will hold a reception for customers, business and cooperation partners in our offices by organising a fascinating “Guided tour through the Valve World”.

On 21.09.2010 our distributors will arrive from all over the world (European countries, America, Japan, China etc.) in order to inform themselves on technical innovations and sales specific topics during the three-day event.

The specialised group „industrial valves“ from the German Engineering Association VDMA will hold its annual board meeting in our offices in Lübeck on the occasion of Mankenberg’s anniversary. We look forward to welcoming participants from all over Germany on 18.11.2010.

In the 125th year of our existence we successfully held our popular seminar “Selection and Application of Control Valves made easy” in South Germany for the first time. More than 45 attendees came to the conference hotel in the South German city of Ulm in order to inform themselves on manufacturing technologies, practical application examples and the dimensioning of pressure regulating valves. Thanks to such overwhelming encouragement we already schedule our next seminar in South Germany.

Visit our homepage from time to time, you will be regularly informed on our anniversary activities.
